An enlightening experience! Information about the best video imaging with intraoral cameras
Advanced Dental can only effectively treat what we know. And the use of truly advanced technologies helps us to better know and understand what is going on inside of your mouth. Our use of state-of-the-art tools, like intraoral cameras, also supports the best possible experience at our office in Aliso Viejo, California. Due to the nature of this technology, we can empower our patients with clear and credible information about the condition and health of their teeth, gums, and mouth. So, they feel empowered to take the best possible care of their teeth and can also feel confident about any treatment decisions that have to be made.
What is an intraoral camera?
“Intra” and “oral” refer to “inside” and “mouth,” respectively. So, these cameras are designed to capture images of the inside of the mouth. They do so gently and non-invasively; Drs Chitra Tiruveedula or Joseph C. Yang simply place a small, pen-like device or wand inside the mouth. They then pass the wand/pen over the tissues and structures. As the handheld device scans, the built-in camera captures very clear and detailed images. These images can be pulled up on a monitor and viewed with you, the patient, in real-time. Plus, such imaging is not static. It is dynamic. As areas are scanned, you can see video of your teeth and other structures as they appear in the moment.
How does this technology differ from other technologies, like digital x-rays?
Digital radiography is different from intraoral cameras in that it produces images of the insides of the teeth and below the gum tissue. Intraoral cameras, however, provide insights into the surface of each tooth with colorful, real-time video. We like to say that this is cutting-edge video imagery at its best! As we perform this imaging, specific concerns may be pointed out to you. You get an inside look and inside track about what is going on in your mouth. So, you can then better understand the nature of your concerns, the state and condition of your teeth, and the best ways to treat these concerns.
Does it hurt?
No technology at our office should “hurt.” Intraoral camera technology is designed to be simple and fast. The wand and process do not produce any pain. There is also no special preparation required. It is even appropriate for fidgety patients or those with dental fear and anxiety because we can scan in minutes. As we go along, our dentists will keep talking to you. It is very easy even to forget you are being scanned and undergoing a diagnostic service. If anything, it is a positive and eye-opening experience, as most patients never really get to see how their teeth look in such great detail.
How about radiation?
Intraoral camera technology does not require radiation to produce the video and images. This makes intraoral cameras appropriate for all patients, regardless of age and health status. Any concerns over safety are avoided with this 100% radiation-free service.
How do you store my records?
In addition to supporting utmost safety, we also support optimal security and data privacy. Our sophisticated systems ensure that the process of recording, storing, managing, and retrieving your records is secure. This is important because we want to use our findings as a baseline to monitor your progress with things like brushing and flossing or even with any treatments that may be advised to treat active disease. So, from diagnoses to patient education, communication, and monitoring, the uses and benefits of intraoral cameras are seemingly limitless.
