Advanced Dental of Aliso Viejo, California’s team, provides patients with a wide range of dental services annually. This includes diagnostic tools and planning instruments such as dental X-rays. Dental radiographs used to be simple X-rays, but now, we have improved technology that offers different types of imaging for our dentists. Drs. Chitra Tiruveedule and Joseph C. Yang of Advanced Dental can talk to patients about X-ray options, such as the cephalometric dental X-ray technology used in our office.
Our team at Advanced Dental describes cephalometric X-rays as dental radiograph technology that captures an image of the entire head to provide a comprehensive view of the teeth, jaw, and facial structure. This type of dental X-ray allows dentists to see how all parts of the oral cavity function together, which helps with diagnosis and treatment planning.
Cephalometric X-rays utilize low levels of radiation to produce high-quality images, making them safe and effective tools for dentists. The machine rotates around the patient’s head, capturing images from different angles and creating a panoramic view. This allows for accurate measurements and precision analysis of the teeth and jaw relationship.
Cephalometric X-rays play a crucial role in orthodontic treatment planning by providing an in-depth look at the patient’s facial structure and how it affects their bite. These X-rays can also aid in diagnosing various dental issues, such as impacted teeth, jaw positioning problems, and growth abnormalities. With this information, dentists can create a personalized treatment plan for each patient based on their unique needs.
During the procedure, the patient is asked to sit or stand still while the machine rotates around their head. The process is quick and painless, taking only a few minutes to capture all necessary images. Patients wear protective lead aprons to shield other body parts from radiation exposure. Before undergoing this X-ray procedure, it is essential to inform your dentist of any prior medical conditions or pregnancy.
